Five Facts About Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal has seen a surge in popularity in recent years as the technology continues to improve.

Those considering this treatment love the idea because it is a relatively safe process of getting rid of unwanted body hair, minus the aggravation of daily shaving. Though waxing and hair removal creams provide marginally better and longer lasting results than shaving, laser treatment provides even better results.

If you are considering laser hair removal as an option, here are five things you should know:

  1. Not everyone is a good candidate for laser hair removal. Despite improvements in technology, the best candidates are still those with fair skin and dark hair. But sometimes those who seem to be good candidates are not. This is why consultation beforehand is extremely important.
  2. Laser hair removal is touted as “virtually painless.” This is definitely not the case. Though most clients are able to tolerate the treatment without requiring pain relief, you should expect some discomfort.
  3. You will likely require multiple sessions to completely remove unwanted hair because hair grows in cycles. During your initial treatment, some of the hair you want removed may not be in the growth phase, which means it will need to be removed at a later time.
  4. “Hair removal is permanent.” This is another misconception regarding laser treatment. Many people experience excellent results with the process. However, many require “touch-ups” every few months or so. The good news is that hair regrowth is permanently “reduced” for many clients, meaning there is less hair regrowth overall.
  5. Laser treatment is not always better than electrolysis. You will need to consult with your dermatologist to figure out what works best for you.
